High-tech Agricultural Development Experimental Zone Situated between Xianyang and Baoji cities, it covers a planned area of 20 square kilometers. Within the zone is the Agriculture Science Town, the only one of its kind in China. There are 11 ministry-owned agricultural research institutions such as the Northwest Agricultural University, the Northwest Forestry Institute and Shaanxi Academy of Agricultural Science.

These institutions boast modern laboratories, testing and training centers, with a research staff of 5,000.The zone focuses on bio-engineering research activities which are concerned with gene engineering, cell engineering, enzyme engineering, fermentation engineering, biological environment ,biological resource preservation and processing, and new agricultural technology development.
