Cees Veerman, Minister of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality of the Netherlands and his party recently visited the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. During the visit, both sides had an in-depth discussion of future cooperation between two nations in the field of agriculture. Cees Veerman thought highly of the recent accomplishments achieved by China and friendly cooperation between the two nations in agriculture. In 2003, two nations jointly kicked off an international project to sequence potato genome. Starting from 1989, the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences has maintained a fruitful cooperation with Dutch Wageningen University in education, academic exchanges, joint laboratory, and cooperative research. Wageningen University has so far provided training opportunities for more than 500 Chinese farming experts, which makes the university one of the overseas universities that cater most training events for Chinese agriculture personnel. The China-Netherlands join lab for vegetable genomics, one of the first key international cooperation projects approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology, has produced several doctorate and Master degree graduates. The Chinese and Dutch governments invested RMB 9.4 million and Euro 2 million respectively in the construction of the joint lab. |
