Satellite Watch for Dam Area
Satellite monitoring and associated applications for geological disasters in the Three Gorge Dam area, a project undertaken by the Chongqing Geological Information Center, has recently passed the verification check. The project is made up of three components:
1) establishing a satellite picture database for the Three Gorge Dam area, using CBERS data and satellite images, correcting unbalanced pictures, and integrating images of different resolutions;
2) producing a Three Gorge Dam area satellite image map at a scale of 1:500,000 using CBERS data, and county-level satellite image maps at a scale of 1:100,000; and
3) performing statistical analysis of disaster stricken areas, using geological disasters points identified, and establishing a geological disaster database for the dam area.

The system enhances operation efficiency, using lower resolution satellite images in basic watch activities, and high resolution ones for detailed analysis. Integrated with diverse satellite images, real time GPS data, and geological data, the system offers more vivid descriptions of disaster stricken areas. Designed with numerous functions, including objective analysis of disaster data, geological inquiry, data updating, and disaster analysis, the system can meet the needs for handling geological disasters, and constitutes an effective service platform for monitoring and handling geological disasters in the Three Gorge Dam area.
