Not long ago, a large vertical wind-tunnel, independently designed and constructed by Chinese scientists, passed its trial ventilation operation. With a height of 55 meters, an experimental section at 5m across, and a top center wind velocity of 50m/s, the wind-tunnel can mimic the wind speeds it desires, using the state-of-the-art speed gearing technology. The wind-tunnel can be used to study aerodynamic subjects, including aircraft performance under a speed losing or tail circling condition, aerodynamic stability in retrieving a recoverable satellite or a manned return capsule.
Using the proven experience and proprietary key technologies, Chinese scientists introduced a brand new design concept, in an effort to maintain the state-of-the-art edge of the key technologies in designing the vertical channel. The proprietary development has made China a world leader in the field.
The success has not only filled up a blank in China where only horizontal wind-tunnels were used in the past, but will also play an important role in the development of national defense technology and national economy. |
